Applying from outside Oxford
The Humanities Division in Oxford has one of the largest concentrations of humanities researchers in the world. We value scholarly independence, and the depth and diversity of our research, which stretches from ancient and classical civilizations, to the intersection between humanities and neuroscience. For more information on the range of research interests, please look at our faculty and unit websites. Every year about one third of our post-doctoral fellowship awards are made to applicants who are new to Oxford, and we welcome the diversity, new and exciting ideas and energy they bring to the thriving community of scholars in the collegiate university.
Oxford University is committed to supporting postdoctoral and 'early career' fellowships, and its divisional research facilitators provide advice and support to applicants for British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships (see below), ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowships, Marie Curie Intra-European and International Incoming Fellowships, The Leverhulme Trust's Early Career Fellowships, Newton International Fellowships, and Wellcome Trust Research Fellowships among others.
If you are interested in making an
application to these schemes or any others, the first step is to seek a host or sponsor who is a member of the collegiate university and is also from one of the Oxford Humanities faculties or units. You must have the agreement of both the individual academic and the faculty in order to make an application. When you have a mentor agreed, please email the research facilitators to confirm the faculty and name of the mentor.
If you are interested in applying to one of the post-doctoral fellowship competitions below, and are not currently a member either of an Oxford University faculty or an Oxford college, then you will find the notes on the following schemes helpful. Please read them first as they will introduce you to the division's and university procedures for submitting research applications from outside Oxford.
