Early Career Opportunities

The Humanities Division in Oxford has one of the largest concentrations of humanities researchers in the world. We value scholarly independence, and the depth and diversity of our research, which stretches from ancient and classical civilizations, to the intersection between humanities and neuroscience. For more information on the range of research interests, please look at our faculty and unit websites.

Oxford University is committed to supporting postdoctoral and early career fellowship applicants and we welcome the diversity, new and exciting ideas and energy they bring to the thriving community of scholars in the collegiate university.

We are keen to encourage prospective Postdoctoral Fellows from outside Oxford to explore the possibility of applying through the Humanities Division, as well as those currently based here.

The Division’s Research Facilitators provide advice and support to applicants for externally-funded research fellowships, including:

  • British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • The Leverhulme Trust's Early Career Fellowships
  • UKRI Future Leader Fellowships

If you are interested in making an application to any postdoctoral fellowship scheme, you will need to seek a host or mentor who is a member of the collegiate university and is also from one of the Oxford Humanities faculties or units.

You must have the agreement of both the individual academic and the faculty in order to make an application. When you have a mentor agreed, please contact the Research Support Team for further advice.

For applications to the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust please consult the relevant pages for details on Oxford’s application process.
