The Open University, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are pleased to announce the success of their bid for funding for the Open-Oxford-Cambridge Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership. The AHRC is the UK’s largest funder of postgraduate training in the arts and humanities, and plays an essential role in supporting the next generation of highly capable researchers. By working together, the AHRC, the Open University, and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge are able to commit to investing in this partnership over its lifetime.
The Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP is a consortium of the three universities for doctoral training and funding in the Humanities. The DTP is underpinned by world-class research and training environments, supported by integrated strategic partnerships with the BBC World Service, the National Trust and British Telecom, is national and international in mindset, and determined to take a leading role in shaping the future of doctoral training in the UK. The three universities share extensive expertise in delivering successful doctoral training, developed in collaboration with their students and a wide range of partners. Bringing together the unrivalled capacity of Oxford and Cambridge and the openness and flexibility of The Open University to deliver the best of face-to-face, distance and online doctoral training will increase the diversity of the universities’ combined doctoral student body and result in benefits for all their doctoral students. The consortium believes that the exceptional breadth, depth, diversity, and, above all, quality of its arts and humanities provision creates a unique environment for creative collaboration and innovation that will promote exciting, ambitious doctoral research and training for the twenty-first century.
The Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP will support five cohorts of students, starting in October 2019. The fifth and final cohort will start in 2023. Each year the consortium expects to award circa 77 AHRC DTP2 scholarships. Information on how to apply for scholarships via the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership for entry in 2019/20 will be available from 1 September 2018.
