Academic Appointments The Divisional Office manages key processes relating to academic appointments, such as requests to fill vacant posts, approval of appointments, issuing contracts, undertaking right to work checks, and processes relating to initial periods of office.
Development The Humanities Development Team works with faculties to prioritise and support fundraising activities, and to provide advice. The Team also works with potential donors to identify areas of interest.
Education Planning and Support The Education Planning and Support team develop policies, and provide advice and support to faculties in relation to admissions, graduate funding, on-course graduate students, curriculum changes and new courses, and examinations.
Estates The Divisional Office works with faculties, and liaises with the University’s Estates Services to ensure that faculties have sufficient space for their teaching and research activities, and for staff and students.
Finance The Finance Team works closely with colleagues in faculties to ensure the sound financial management of the Division and its units. The Team supports faculties in developing budgets and financial forecasts, and in preparing for quarterly reviews.
Governance The Divisional Board and its committees – with members from all faculties - play an important part in the formal governance structure of the University, including setting strategic direction, and approving budgets and academic appointments.
Health and Safety The Divisional Office works with Faculty Board Chairs and administrators to develop and implement appropriate procedures and documents to ensure the Health and Safety of staff and students.
Human Resources (HR) The Divisional Office provides advice and support to faculties on a range of personnel issues, and works closely with the University’s Personnel Services.
Information Security The Division works with Faculties to develop Information Security guidelines for Humanities staff and students, and to share good practice.
Researcher Development Support The Division’s team creates and delivers a programme of training and development activities for doctoral students and postdocs from all Humanities faculties. The team work closely with the TORCH team.
Research Support The Research Facilitation team provides operational and policy support for several streams of research-related activity, including raising awareness of available funding, and supporting colleagues in applying for external research funding.
Strategic planning and projects The Division works closely with faculties to set the overall strategic direction for Humanities at Oxford, and to get input into annual planning exercises, for example reviewing student intake targets and tuition fees.
TORCH TORCH provides opportunities for Humanities scholars at Oxford to collaborate across disciplines and institutions, and to work with academics across all stages of their academic careers.
