The actor, writer and presenter Stephen Fry has been appointed as Visiting Professor of Creative Media in the Faculty of English.
Stephen Fry is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter, film director, and all-round national treasure. He is best known for TV performances in A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster and Blackadder, and blockbusters, such as V for Vendetta, the Sherlock Holmes films, and The Hobbit series.
He has been an advocate for the rights of the LGBT+ community for over 30 years and recently hosted the award-winning documentary, Out There, a series that explored the lives of lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender people around the world.
As part of his Professorship, Stephen will give a lecture on 24 January 2025 at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Professor Marion Turner, Chair of the English Faculty Board from 2021-2024, commented:
