Year 12 Humanities BAME Study Day 2020

The Humanities Division, Magdalen College and University College are organising a Humanities Study Day on Wednesday 15th April 2020. This day is for Year 12 students from UK schools who have Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME) heritage.

Attendees will have the chance to explore two of Oxford’s colleges by taking part in academic sessions, learning about the admissions process and interacting with current undergraduate students. You can see the provisional programme of the day here.

A limited amount of accommodation is available on the evening of 14th April for applicants coming from over 2.5 hours away, and some travel expenses may be covered.

This day is specifically open for Year 12 students at school in the UK from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Backgrounds. These groups of students are underrepresented in our student body.  This event is therefore specifically designed to encourage Year 12 BAME students from the UK to apply to Oxford, as part of the University’s broader commitment to widening access.

To apply for this day, this application form must be completed by noon on Monday 16 March 2020http://bit.ly/2uDc1Vl.

Also by this deadline a teacher’s approval form must be submitted. An email will automatically go to your teacher once you submit this form (if the email address is entered correctly). Please bear this in mind if you are applying close to the deadline, and flag up the approval form deadline to them.

Applications from all school types are welcome, from all regions of the UK, although we particularly welcome interest from students who attend state schools, sixth forms and FE colleges. Should the day be oversubscribed, we aim to choose students who have potential to make a competitive application to Oxford and who will most benefit from the workshops. We will consider information such as GCSE results and predicted grades, and may consider educational and socio-economic background, using similar categories to the contextual data which is used in the Oxford admissions process. Note that Humanities degrees at Oxford have a standard offer of 3 As at A level.

Any questions about the application form should be directed to outreach@humanities.ox.ac.uk.
