John and Alun Edwards Doctoral Scholarship in Spanish Studies
Applications are invited for a doctoral (DPhil) scholarship in Spanish studies (covering history, languages or literature) from 2026/27 at the University of Oxford. The scholarship is awarded thanks to Rosemary Edwards in memory of her late brother, Dr John Edwards, and father, Alun Edwards.
We welcome applications from DPhil candidates wishing to pursue a research project in Spanish studies either in the faculties of History or Medieval and Modern Languages. Candidates with research interests in Spanish history and culture in the 15th and 16th centuries are particularly encouraged to apply.
Award value: The Studentship covers course fees at the Home rate and provides a stipend (tax-free maintenance grant) of £21,805 (2026/27 rates) for three years.
Application process: Candidates are required to apply for either the DPhil in History or the DPhil in Medieval and Modern Languages, depending on their proposed research project.
Application deadline: The deadline for applications is 15 May 2026.
Selection process: The award will be made solely on academic grounds by a selection committee organised by the Humanities Division.
